FOOTBALL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. When will my child play? Our games are held on Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. On rare occasions we may play afternoon/evening games on Saturdays.
The schedule on Saturday mornin gs will be 9am Bantam, 10:30am PeeWee, 12pm Juniors, 1:30 Seniors.
2. Is it important to be at every practice?
It is very important that you make it to every practice. Football is a team sport and when any one part of that team is missing it makes it difficult for that team to work as a unit.
Playing time is often adversely effected by missing practices. Always inform your coaches if you have to miss.
3. Do we practice in the rain?
Yes we always practice in the rain. Just as we always play our games in the event rain. We only stop practice for lightning and even then it is often just delayed.
4. How much playing time will my child get ?
SYS football is a competitive program however, the coaches are committed to reasonable playing time for individuals based upon putting the safety of a child first, followed by their experience level, previous playing knowledge, practice attendance and20learning curve of a position(s) throughout the season.
5. What is a JV or "B" team ?
In 2000, SYS began funding Monday Night J.V. football, which was met with great success. By offering regularly scheduled and officiated games on Monday nights, kids who may not have seen playing time in Saturdays games get their chance to hone their skills in real game situations enhancing the overall SYS experience for both parents and kids alike. This is a great help to less experienced players who might be put at an undo risk of injury by playing on Saturday’s against more experienced players. Most players that start of playing only on Monday nights will end up playing on Saturdays as their skills progress.
6. How early do we need to be at the field before games?
Please be at the field in full gear ready to warm up one full hour before the game.
7. What is a striped or overweight player ?
A player is designated as overweight and must be
striped if he weighs more than:
1) 160lbs on the Senior team.
2) 130lbs on the Junior team.

Elmore Park, just like SYS, is an all volunteer organization. This organization would not exist if it were not for people willing to donate their time and effort as coaches, team mom’s , board members and may other things. There are lots of things that need to be done. Helping at the concession stand , helping with the field, helping get kids to practice and games helping as a coach or running for a position on the board. Always remember if there is something that you see needs to be done or you think can be done better20then that is probably something YOU could do to help. Just let one of our board members know what you would like to do to help.

15. What is SYS ?
Shelby Youth Sports ( SYS) is the name of the league we are in.
Shelby Youth Sports is different that most other organizations, we are governed by a Board of Directors comprised of a few officers and representatives from each area that participates. The area representatives set rules, policies and guidelines for the sports and the management of the association. The officers are responsible for the administration of these rules as well as the day-to-day operations of the organization. We think this creates a great organization, one that is reactive to the changing needs of our most important part…. The Youth Participants.
As condition of Association membership each Area offers program services in Track and Field, Cheerleading and Football to youth located within the local Area’s physical territories. SYS assigns boundaries to areas in order to stabilize each member Areas participant base. In addition to program service requirements, each Area must abide by and adhere to the SYS Constitution, Bylaws and Code of Ethics.
16. If I have a problem with a coach how should I handle it ?
First you should try to talk to your teams coach but please do this away from the children.
If it cannot be handled that way please get with our Area Director or one of our Assistant Directors and we will do our best to take care of the problem.
